Legend has it that the founder of Ayurveda, Dhanvantari, first used Juniper berries to cure diseases. Juniper berries are believed to have healing properties that can cure ailments such as coughs and colds. These berries have been used in Indian cuisine for centuries, especially in Kashmiri dishes.
Legend has it that a farmer in Punjab discovered the fruit growing in his orchard, which had been planted with orange seeds from California. The farmer initially thought the fruit was a mutation, but soon realized its potential and began selling it in local markets.
Legend has it that coriander was once known as the "food of the gods" in ancient India. It was believed to have been used in religious ceremonies to purify the soul and ward off evil spirits. Coriander is a staple in Indian cuisine, with every part of the plant, from the leaves to the seeds, being used.
The idea of OreGin was conceived by our founder, Manpreet Singh, who is as passionate about his alcohol as embodying quality living. After spending years looking for the perfect drink, we decided to do it ourselves, and create an “OG” drink.
What we also wanted to ensure was maximum positive impact and found the collaboration with Punjab Agro already ensuring phenomenal support for the farmers in Punjab, amongst other prestigious projects.
Adding to the ingredients is the artisanal approach to the making of the gin in a distillery focused on quality. Rhea distillery, known for its alcohol in international markets, agreed to this foray into the Goa market with OreGin.
Our love for the planet is evident in the sourcing of our botanicals and ensuring no additives or flavors in the gin. Our love for you, the connoisseur of our drink is evident in that the gin is best sipped on its own or with water or on the rocks. No need for sugary additives or tonic. We at Oregin have our very own distillation pot at the distillery in Goa named “Saptras”, to represent the secret sauce that goes into making OreGin. All our fresh, juicy, citrusy botanicals get transported to this distillery where they are processed through natural methods to craft OreGin. Without giving too much away, let’s let you know that one of our initial challenges was how to sundry our ingredients in the humid Goa weather and especially during the monsoons. We got it done finally, but when we say it's natural, we really put our backs into it!
